Empowering Artisans, Strengthening Communities
At Care Studios, every handcrafted piece tells a story—not only of South Africa’s rich cultural heritage, but also of resilience, opportunity, and empowerment.
We partner with talented artisans, many of whom face limited access to stable employment and economic opportunities. Through fair compensation, ongoing support, and investment in their families and communities, DTCare help artisans build brighter futures for themselves and the next generation.
Financial Support & Sustainable Income
For many artisans, traditional employment opportunities can be difficult to access. Care Studios creates meaningful income-generating opportunities by connecting artisans to global markets and ensuring they are compensated fairly for their craftsmanship.
Our artisans earn income through the creation of authentic handmade jewelry, home décor, handbags, and beaded sculptures that celebrate South African culture and artistry. We work closely with artisan leaders to ensure transparency in pricing, fair distribution of work, and timely payments.
In addition to their earnings from product sales, the artisan team receives weekly transportation and food allowances generously funded by Ralph Ziman. These allowances help cover the day-to-day costs associated with traveling to the studio and maintaining daily meals, reducing financial pressures on artisans and their families.
By helping offset these essential living expenses, artisans are able to retain more of their earnings to support their households, education expenses, and long-term financial goals. This support contributes to greater economic stability and allows artisans to focus on developing their skills and creating exceptional handcrafted products.
Through fair compensation, market access, and ongoing support, Care Studios is helping artisans build sustainable livelihoods while preserving the rich cultural traditions reflected in their work.
Healthcare & Well-Being
Economic empowerment goes hand in hand with personal well-being. Through regular communication and in-person visits, DTCare remain connected to the challenges artisans face both in their work and personal lives.
As part of our commitment to artisan well-being, we partnered with Nursing Care 2000 who visit our artisan team at the Randburg studio every two months. These visits are funded through the support of Ralph Ziman and DTCare and provide artisans with access to basic health assessments, wellness screenings, and practical health education.
During these sessions, artisans receive guidance on preventative healthcare, nutrition, personal wellness, and other health-related topics that can improve their quality of life. The visits also provide a safe and supportive environment where artisans can ask questions, discuss concerns, and receive professional advice that may otherwise be difficult to access.
We believe that access to health information and preventative care is an important part of empowering individuals and strengthening communities. By bringing healthcare education directly to the studio, we help reduce barriers to care and support the overall well-being of the artisans and their families.
By maintaining long-term partnerships rather than transactional relationships, we are able to support artisans through life’s challenges and celebrate their successes. Our goal is not only to create economic opportunities, but also to contribute to the health, resilience, and long-term well-being of the people behind every handcrafted piece.
Education & Opportunities for the Next Generation
At DTCare, we recognize that creating lasting change requires investing in children and young people.
Many artisan families face challenges related to educational access, school fees, supplies, and other barriers that can limit future opportunities. Through DTCare’s educational programs in South Africa and Zimbabwe, we help support vulnerable children by providing access to education, school fee assistance, educational resources, and opportunities that encourage long-term success.
This commitment extends to the children of artisan families whenever possible. We recognize that empowering artisans also means investing in their families and helping create brighter futures for the next generation.
By helping young people stay in school and pursue their goals, we contribute to breaking cycles of poverty and creating opportunities that can last for generations.
More Than Fair Trade
When you purchase from Care Studios, you are supporting more than a handcrafted product.
You are helping create sustainable income opportunities for artisans, preserving traditional African craftsmanship, supporting healthcare and wellness initiatives, investing in children’s education, and strengthening communities across South Africa and Zimbabwe.
